Support Groups

 

Alzheimer's Support Group - Sessions are offered in New Iberia on the 1st Wednesday of the month at 6 pm at the AAA Home Health Facility.  For more information, call 289-8517. 

Autism - Acadian Society for Autistic Citizens, ASAC, meets the first Tuesday of every month at 6:30 pm at Alesi's PizzaHouse on Johnston St. in Lafayette. Parents and professionals are welcome to attend. For more information, (337) 369-2885, www.autism-society.org/chapter285

Autism - St. Landry Chapter of ASAC -  Holds meetings every odd month: July, Sept, and Nov. at The Palace Cafe, 942-2142, 135 West Landry Street,  Opelousas, at 6:00 pm.  Contact Bambi Polotzola, 585-3715, or bambi4chas@bellsouth.net, for more information. 

Autism - Iberia Chapter of ASAC - Meets at the Iberia Parish Library on Main Steet in New Iberia, every 2nd Tuesday of the month, at 6:30 pm.  Contact Anne Porche at Aspiemom51294@yahoo.com or Darrell Thibodeaux, 577-0986.

Bridges - A peer support and education program for persons diagnosed with any form of mental illness.   Day and evening sessions are available.  Call 237-0046 or 1-877-274-3446 for more information. 

Caregivers - A support group for caregivers of the elderly, chronically ill, or disabled individuals meets at 6:30 pm on the third Wednesday of the month. For more information call Lucile Guidry at 988-5631.

Down Syndrome Association Of Acadiana - Meets the 1st Tuesday of  JUN, AUG, OCT, and DEC at 6:00 p.m at Woman's Foundation Classroom, Building A, Suite 100 in Lafayette Surgicares Building in front of Woman's and Children's Hospital in Lafayette.  For more information and registration confirmation, please call (337) 234-3109 or see the website, www.DSAA.info.

Journey of Hope - For family members of persons with menatl health issues.  Meets from 7-8:30 pm on Thursday at the Community Baptist Church, 800 Rue De Belier, Lafayette.  Contact Della Trahan for more information at 856-4142.

Stuttering Support - National Stuttering Association (Lafayette Chapter) announces its new, more convenient time for our CHILDREN and TEEN Support Groups.  Meetings from 6-7pm will allow for even more kids to participate.  Meetings will be held at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Burke-Hawthorne Hall, Room 223.  FAMILY members and speech-language pathologists (SLPs) are welcome to attend.  SLPs accompanied by a youth fluency client will receive helpful stuttering materials.  ADULTS will continue to have their meetings at this location from 7-8 PM.
